The message below is from Evergreen Health and we are posting this to increase awareness.
Good afternoon, association staff,
Few, if any, organizations in Western New York understand the complexities of the current opiate epidemic better than we do here at Evergreen. We continue to see and feel the effects substance use has on the lives of our clients and everyday work of our staff.
That is why on August 31st, Evergreen Health will host two simultaneous first of their kind events in Buffalo and the Southern Tier. In commemoration of International Overdose Awareness Day, these events aim to decrease the stigma associated with substance use, remember those we have lost to drug related death, and illustrate how our harm reduction services can keep people alive and help them achieve their goals.
August 31, 6pm, Evergreen Commons: shared words from select elected officials, staff, and clients who belong to our substance use programs and more.
August 31, 6pm, Chautauqua Mall: staff and stakeholders will speak on available substance use services with informational displays by local groups.
As workers on the front lines of this and other public health epidemics, we hope you can join us for this special occasion. In the meantime, you can help by checking out Overdose Awareness Day events on Facebook (here and here) and spreading the word to your family, friends, colleagues, and clients. These events are free and open to the public.
