The Number of Medicaid Enrollees Receiving Substance Abuse Services expected to Skyrocket


The expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act has resulted in  younger beneficiaries with needs that are different than traditional medicaid recipients. A major difference is that the group of new medicaid enrollees is estimated to have much larger rates of substance use and mental health disorders.

Theoretically, this could lead to more people having access to and benefiting from treatment.  Is the system prepared?
